Study on the histamine-like activity of guanfacine

1990

Abstract The effects of guanfacine have been studied on guinea-pig isolated atria and diethylstilboestrol-treated rat isolated uterus to determine whether it possesses histamine-like activity. Guanfacine produced a concentration-dependent negative chronotropic effect which was not modified by ranitidine (0.1 μM). In rat isolated uterus contracted by KCl, clonidine (5–5000 μM) produced concentration-dependent relaxation which was blocked by ranitidine (0.1 μM), but guanfacine only produced relaxation at high concentrations (100–1000 μM), and this was not affected by ranitidine (0.1 μM). It is concluded that guanfacine, unlike clonidine, does not produce effects due to activation of H2-recept…

Detailed study of SNR G306.3–0.9 using XMM-Newton and Chandra observations

2016

Aims. We aim to study the spatial distribution of the physical and chemical properties of the X-ray emitting plasma of the supernova remnant (SNR) G306.3-0.9 in detail to obtain constraints on its ionization stage, the progenitor supernova explosion, and the age of the remnant. Methods. We used combined data from XMM-Newton and Chandra observatories to study the X-ray morphology of G306.3-0.9 in detail. A spatially resolved spectral analysis was used to obtain physical and geometrical parameters of different regions of the remnant. Spitzer infrared observations, available in the archive, were also used to constrain the progenitor supernova and study the environment in which the remnant evol…

SHOCK-CLOUD INTERACTION AND PARTICLE ACCELERATION IN THE SOUTHWESTERN LIMB OF SN 1006

2014

The supernova remnant SN 1006 is a powerful source of high-energy particles and evolves in a relatively tenuous and uniform environment despite interacting with an atomic cloud in its northwestern limb. The X-ray image of SN 1006 reveals an indentation in the southwestern part of the shock front and the H I maps show an isolated (southwestern) cloud, having the same velocity as the northwestern cloud, whose morphology fits perfectly in the indentation. We performed spatially resolved spectral analysis of a set of small regions in the southwestern nonthermal limb and studied the deep X-ray spectra obtained within the XMM-Newton SN 1006 Large Program. We also analyzed archive H I data, obtain…

Secondary structure conformation of hydroperoxide lyase from green bell pepper, cloned in Yarrowia lipolytica, and its activity in selected media

2008

International audience; Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy of secondary structure conformation of the purified green bell pepper hydroperoxide lyase (HPL), cloned in the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, was investigated. The CD spectra of HPL in iso-octane, obtained at 60 °C, in the presence of the reducing agent dithiothreitol showed dramatic increase in α-helix content. The enzyme conformation remained unchanged over a range of pH values of 5.0–7.0. Using 13-hydroperoxide of linoleic acid (13-HPOD) as substrate, the biocatalysis of HPL in organic solvent media, including chloroform, dichloromethane, hexane, iso-octane, octane and toluene, was investigated. The results indicated an increase in…

Confinement of chiral molecules in reverse micelles: FT-IR, polarimetric and VCD investigation on the state of dimethyl tartrate in sodium bis(2-ethy…

2008

Abstract The state of d and l -dimethyl tartrate confined within dry sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) reverse micelles dispersed in CCl 4 has been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy, polarimetry, and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD). Measurements have been performed at 25 °C as a function of the solubilizate-to-surfactant molar ratio ( R ) at a fixed AOT concentration (0.158 M). The analysis of experimental data is consistent with the hypothesis that both enantiomers of dimethyl tartrate are mainly entrapped in the reverse micelles and located in proximity to the surfactant head-group region. The formation of this interesting self-organized chiral nanostructure involves som…

Separation, isolation and stereochemical assignment of imazalil enantiomers and their quantitation in an in vitro toxicity test

2016

A simple method for the separation of the enantiomers of the fungicide imazalil was developed. Racemic imazalil was separated into its enantiomers with an enantiomeric purity of 99% using HPLC-UV with an enantioselective column (permethylated cyclodextrin) operated in reversed phase mode (water with 0.2% trimethylamine and 0.08% acetic acid and methanol). The absolute configuration of the separated enantiomers was assigned and unequivocally confirmed by optical rotation as well as by vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) combined with ab-initio calculations. The same enantioselective column was also used to develop an HPLC-MS/MS method for the quantifi…

Modulation of geraniol metabolism during alcohol fermentation

2004

J. Inst. Brew. 110(3), 213–219, 2004 Geraniol is the main monoterpenol present in Gewurtztraminer white grapes and in some red aromatic grapes from northern Italy. During fermentation, the geraniol concentration showed a dramatic drop and a small amount was transformed into linalool and -terpineol by an acid catalysed chemical reaction. Yeast are responsible for changing most of the geraniol to citronellol through enzymatic reactions. The final aroma of wine is due mainly to both the untransformed geraniol and the formed citronellol. In this study, competition between the geraniol-citronellol transformation and another metabolic process, in which according to our hypothesis sterol biosynthe…

How does the brain encode epistemic reliability? Perceptual presence, phenomenal transparency, and counterfactual richness

2014

AbstractSeth develops a convincing and detailed internalist alternative to the sensorimotor-contingency theory of perceptual phenomenology. However, there are remaining conceptual problems due to a semantic ambiguity in the notion of “presence” and the idea of “subjective veridicality.” The current model should be integrated with the earlier idea that experiential “realness” and “mind-independence” are determined by the unavailability of earlier processing stages to attention. Counterfactual richness and attentional unavailability may both be indicators of the overall processing level currently achieved, a functional property that normally correlates with epistemic reliability. Perceptual p…

2013

Abstract Several new benzamides 4a–q were synthesized by stirring in pyridine the acid chlorides 3a–q with the appropriate anthranilamide derivatives 2a–g. Some of the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antiproliferative activity against a panel of 5 human cell lines (K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cells, MCF-7 breast cancer cells, HTC-116 and HT26 colon cancer cells and NCI H460 non-small cell lung cancer cells).

On the automorphism group of the integral group ring of Sk wr Sn

1992

Abstract Let G = SkwrSn be the wreath product of two symmetric groups Sk and Sn. We prove that every normalized automorphism θ of the integral group ring Z G can be written in the form θ = γ ° τu, where γ is an automorphism of G and τu denotes the inner automorphism induced by a unit u in Q G.
